The Polo Bear first became a feature of Ralph Lauren iconography in 1991 when his design team gifted Ralph a Stieff bear clad in miniature pieces of clothing from their collections. Ralph was taken by the idea and decided to manufacture these teddies which found their way to the shelves of the Madison Avenue flagship store. These original bears proved to be an instant hit which reportedly sold out over a single weekend.
The teddy bear soon became the 'Polo Bear', a mascot whose likeness found its way onto pieces of clothing dressed in looks and styles of casual and formal clothing depicting various lifestyles and looks from the collections.
A perfect example of a 'preppy bear' this luxurious heavyweight jumper carefully depicts the bear through intricate stitching variations. It's a timeless staple marked with the original date of production and still popular to this day.
